App Store and Google Play screenshot sizes

Every screenshot resolution the two stores accept, which ones are required to publish, and a way to produce any of them in the browser without installing anything.

App Store

Apple asks for the 6.9-inch iPhone set and, for any app that supports iPad, the 13-inch iPad set. The rest are accepted and still in use by listings that predate the current requirement.

Google Play

Play requires at least two phone screenshots and the feature graphic before a listing can go live. Tablet screenshots are optional, but providing them changes how Play surfaces the app to tablet users.

What gets a file rejected

Three things, and each one is enough on its own. The resolution has to match the list exactly — a canvas exported at 2× is a different size, not a better one. The image cannot carry an alpha channel, and a PNG can carry one even when no pixel in it is transparent. And the file has to be flat RGB.

MobileShots exports store canvases at 1× with the alpha flattened, because a store canvas is not a canvas with a different size — it is a form with rules.

Video, not just images

A listing can also carry a video. Apple calls it an App Preview and caps it at 30 seconds; it is the part of a listing most apps skip, and the one with the least competition. App Preview video specs and how to make one →

Pick a size, drop your screenshot in, export it ready to upload. Free, nothing to install, and nothing leaves your computer to be rendered.
